I think a lot of people prevent themselves from trying gardening because they believe they won’t be good at it.
How many things do we stop ourselves from enjoying for that reason? The truth is, you don’t have to be great at it. Hell, you don’t have to be great with anything. Very few people are. But you can enjoy fresh herbs and salad greens, summer squash, ripe red tomatoes without a lot of knowledge or effort. The word superficial may imply being shallow, but it can also mean a light touch. You can have a light touch on the soil in your yard or a windowsill container and still get the benefits of gardening. And gardening provides many benefits. It keeps us in touch with the natural cycles of earth. It provides us with fresh food that hasn’t traveled thousands of miles in questionable containers. It reminds us that we are part of life. It gives us a moment of calm, a period of peace. It’s perfectly all right to be a superficial gardener. I urge everyone to try it. Comments are closed.
